Fashion Trends from Diwali 2013

December 13th, 2013

This year’s Diwali celebration has come and gone, but the memories of the parties and fashion have not. This year’s Diwali celebration started on November 3rd and went through the 8th, with fanfare all throughout. This year brought plenty of stellar fashion choices, so here, we’ll take a look at a few of our favorite looks as well as some of the trends we saw.

First, our favorite looks:

Wild Safari

Salman Khan’s sister Arpita wore this delightful sari to Sohail Khan and his wife Seema’s Diwali party. She took a walk on the wild side and bucked tradition in favor of wearing a leopard and peacock-printed ensemble. In this photo by Varinder Chawla, she’s shown chatting with Salman Khan and actor Suniel Shetty.

Beautiful in Brown

Amrita Arora also attended Sohail and Seema Khan’s Diwali party. She went to the party with her husband, Shakeel Ladak, pictured here. Her outfit is a gorgeous brown, bronze and gold number with red accents, including her shoes and nails. Her earrings and Jimmy Choo clutch add an air of elegance with gold. She’s truly stunning in this ensemble—it’s nearly a shame that her husband wore ripped jeans to the event.

Not to Be Missed in Yellow

Kothari chose instead to wear an almost-fluorescent pantsuit with silver sequin edges and turquoise trim.

Stepping outside of what was more commonly worn during the festivities, actress Neelam Kothari wore a bright yellow suit with silver sandals that matched the suit’s trimmings. While many of the guests at the party were photographed in jewel tones and saris, Kothari chose instead to wear an almost-fluorescent pantsuit with silver sequin edges and turquoise trim. It’s an eye-catching ensemble and one that definitely made this actress stand out from the rest of the stars.

Other Trends We Loved

Other trends we noticed during Diwali celebrations were women wearing a lot of gold accented with red or emerald green details. For instance, cream colored saris as well as beige churidaar-kameezes were popular, especially with gold trim and red accents on the fabric and jewelry. Specially designed anarkali suits were very popular as well, with women choosing ones with asymmetrical hemlines or ornate jackets with grand details. The design as well as the length of the anarkali is what determines whether it’s appropriate for an elaborate celebration or whether it can be worn for any other day of the year.

5 Hot Looks from Shraddha Kapoor

December 11th, 2013

Shraddha Kapoor is an Indian actress and former model, so it’s not surprising that she not only has access to a lot of wonderful clothing, but that she looks great in it as well. Kapoor is popular within the Indian film world, and at just 21 years old, she’s got a bright future ahead of her. Already, she has appeared in several films such as “Luv Ka The End,” for which she earned the Stardust Award for Best Actress, and “Aashiqui 2,” a romantic musical drama.

She’s known for her film roles, but she’s also gotten a lot of attention for her fashion choices. Here are five our favorite looks that she has shown off at various events

5) Black and Sparkly:

Shraddha Kapoor is known for her taste in fashion like this black and sparkly outfit.

Kapoor wore this dress, designed by Siddhartha Tytler, to an “Aashiqui 2” promotional event. This fresh-off-the-runway look is radiant on the movie star, hugging her curves and reflecting light. The cutaway sleeves add an edge to this ultra-formal look. Kapoor’s co-star, Aditya Roy Kapur, unfortunately un-glammed his look for the event, showing up in a simple black shirt, blue jeans, and neutral-colored sandals. You’d think with Shraddha dressing up and looking so lovely, her co-stars would at least try and match, but at least this way she shines even brighter.

4) Aqua and Gold

Kapoor went with a traditional outfit, wearing an aqua sari with glittering gold accents

3) Ethereal in White

Choosing a traditional look again, Kapoor still stuns in this white sari. With gold accents and a matching purse, the outfit is complemented by Kapoor’s red lipstick. She wore this ensemble for the premiere of Mai, and her gown was designed by Anita Dongre with earrings from Anmol Jewelers. A truly stunning look from Shraddha.

2) Stunning in Off White

Again in a pale color, Shraddha stuns with this off-white shift dress from Dolce & Gabbana. She wore this beautiful dress to the L’Officiel 10th Anniversary lunch, and paired it with a metallic clutch and a sideswept, low bun. The real talk here however is the St. Erasmus necklace—with layers and a large magenta accent, this is what truly makes the outfit sing.

1) Floral and Funky

These printed floral pants, when paired with leather heels and a quilted vest, look feminine yet edgy

At an event for Forever 21, Shraddha shows us she can dress down while still looking gorgeous and on-trend. These printed floral pants, when paired with leather heels and a quilted vest, look feminine yet edgy. Kapoor keeps the rest of the look simple, with wavy hair and simple makeup, and it’s a spiky bracelet that amps up the volume on this outfit.

What’s your favorite look of Shraddha’s?

Shah Rukh Khan’s 48th Birthday

December 10th, 2013
Shah Rukh Khan is a world renowned Bollywood actor.

Back in 2008, Shah Rukh Khan was named one of the 50 most powerful people in the world. In 2011, the Los Angeles Times called him “the world’s biggest movie star.” And this year, Khan not only celebrated his 48th birthday but also welcomed a third child with his wife, Gauri Khan. Suffice to say, Khan’s been having a lot of success thrown his way.

Love from Fans

With his birthday came tons of well wishes from fans. Khan tweeted at his followers, “The mark of one born with noble qualities is being born without envy. – Francois. Now becos of ur lov I envy no one. Thanx all for ennobling me [sic].”

Khan is currently filming a movie “Happy New Year,” and the director Abhishek Bachchan as well as Rarah Khan wished the actor well on his big day. Farah posted a photo, saying, “Happy Birthday to my wiser, richer, and ‘older-than-me’ friend!”

A Most Prolific Bollywood King

Khan has been involved in more than 75 movies, and shows no sign of slowing down. On his birthday, fans even gathered at the doorsteps of his own home to light fireworks for the celebration. Khan said of the celebrations, “Thank u everyone. All who came outside the house with crackers and posters. Love to u all & apologies to the neighbors. Ur love makes me happy.” Khan also enjoyed having several hashtags dedicated to him on his birthday–#SRKDay, #SRKsBirthdayCelebrations, and #BirthdayOfBaadshah Khan were all the place to find birthday wishes to the star.

In recent photos of Khan, he can be seen sporting sleek black suits as well as other traditional Indian clothing, but no matter what he wears, his adoring fans will surely be true to the end. He is even involved in a somewhat playful feud with Salman Khan (no relation) over whether actress Deepika Padukone will star in her next film opposite Shah Rukh or Salman. Though she has starred with Shah Rukh before, she has said she wuld love to do a film with the ‘other’ Khan. We’ll have to wait to see if that all pans out, but we’ll keep you updated!

What’s your favorite film that Khan has been in?

Find a Great Formal Purse for Fall

December 2nd, 2013

Fall has arrived, and with it a new season of fashion trends you’ll love keeping up with.  From small clutches and wristlets to bigger , carryall tote bags, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for these hot trends in the purse world.  Here are this fall’s biggest fashion trends for formal purses.

1) Beading
Beading and sequins are always in style when it comes to formalwear. The flashier the better, some say! That being said, it’s no surprise that once again, it’s a hot fall trend for formal purses. Sequins and beading catch the light and literally make you look like you’re sparkling, and they’re the perfect accent to nearly any evening gown, especially simpler ones without a lot of details. If you’re already wearing a glitzy, elaborate dress, you can still use beading for your purse, but try to make it a solid color that accents the already-stunning gown.

2) Large Clasps
Bold clasps on clutches and wristlets are a great addition. Think of it as jewelry for your purse! When a bag has a large clasp, the eye is drawn to it, and typically when bags have this feature, the clasp is something beautiful like a large rhinestone or polished stone.  This is a chance fore designers to add something onto an otherwise plain-looking clutch. They also make opening a purse easier, but as we all know, purses are not necessarily always function. They are, however, always for fashion, and with a large, statement-esque clasp, you’ll be totally en vogue.

3) Bright Accents on Neutral Purses

One other trend for formal purses is adding bright accents to neutral-toned purses. For instance, if a purse is a subdued taupe shade, adding a string of bright, jewel toned ribbon or a beaded sash across the front can really make it pop. This also makes the purse more versatile, as then it can go with more than just one outfit.

Hot Fashion Trends for Fall

November 25th, 2013

If you follow fashion, you know that not everything that comes down the runway is made for regular people. There are simply some looks that are best left to the professionals. That said, there are still some trends that are accessible for non-model types. Here are three of the hottest fall fashion trends to be on the lookout for this year.

1) Statement Coats.
Statement coats are, as you might imagine, coats for fall weather that aren’t your typical pea coat or motorcycle jacket. Statement coats can be oversized, brightly colored, highly embellished, made with a unique fabric, you name it—so long as the intention of the coat is to draw attention. Statement coats are not for the faint of heart, and the wearer can’t be shy or timid.  These pieces will have all eyes on you, so if you’re not thrilled about that idea, you may want to look elsewhere for your outerwear this autumn.

2) Winter White.

Typically, when speaking of fashion, it’s thought of as a “don’t” to wear white after Labor Day. Of course, the first rule about fashion is that you don’t have to follow the rules, which is probably why winter white pieces are en vogue this fall. From white slacks to long white trench coats and everything in between, this frosty hue is something you’ll be seeing a lot of this season.  Since white goes with most anything, there are a number of ways you can accessorize it. Pair it with bold shoes, metallics, statement jewelry, or other neutrals like black. Whatever you choose to pair it with, you’ll look as cold as ice—in a good way.

3) High-Shine Pieces.
Metallic and shiny fabrics are making waves in the fashion world, and we don’t mean by way of tacky, gold lame. This time around, materials like patent leather are very popular, as are bold metallics, and that means more than just silver and gold. Think things like pewter leather pants, aqua heels, and much more. These types of pieces, again, are rather attention-grabbing, so if you prefer a more subdued look, stick to neutrals that are shiny rather than bold colors.
